David Testo, a 30-year-old former MVP for the Montreal Impact soccer team, came out in an interview with CBC Radio Canada.
"I’m gay, I’m gay. I did not choose. It’s just part of who I am. And it has nothing to do with the talent of a soccer player. You can be both an excellent soccer player and being gay," Testo said this week. "I really regret not having said publicly earlier. I fought with it all my life, my whole career. Living the life of a professional athlete and being gay is incredibly difficult ... It saps all your energy to you, in addition to having to perform, having to play."
A native of North Carolina, Testo started his professional soccer career playing for the Columbus Crew in the MLS League. He moved to the Montreal Impact in 2007 and was named its most valuable player two years ago. Though the public was in the dark about Testo's orientation, he says his family, friends, and even teammates knew.

There’ll also be a terrifically fun scene in which Kurt, Blaine and Sebastian run into Kurt’s closeted, reformed bully — and Santana’s beard for prom — Karofsky (Max Adler) at their town’s only gay bar, Scandals, according to EW.
The episode will no doubt attract controversy, sending antigay and abstinence-only groups into a tailspin with what is purported to be a sensitive, mature handling of something the majority of teens go through in high school. The show had already been called "propaganda" by religious right activists because of its proudly gay characters. But sweeps month was made for controversy.
“The episode is said to highlight the importance of safe sex, emotional preparation and a healthy discourse,” according to The Daily Mail.
Don’t look for a parallel story with the show’s now official girl-girl couple — Santana (Naya Rivera) and Brittany (Heather Morris) — as the pair had been getting their “sweet lady kisses” on and “scissoring” as far back as a year ago.

Scouting officials helped cover up more than two decades of molestation from a leader who admitted to sexually assaulting children, according to a joint investigation by the Los Angeles Times and the Canadian Broadcasting Corp.
Rick Turley allegedly molested at least 15 children during his tenure as a scout leader for both the Boy Scouts of America and Canadian Scouting. Officials from an Orange County, Calif., chapter of the BSA even failed to report his actions after he admitted to molesting three boys in 1979.
After his stint in Southern California, Turley returned to Canada, where he joined Scouts Canada and continued abusing children.
Turley, 58, who now works at a truck stop motel in Alberta, Canada, said "it was easy," and that he was surprised at how he was able to get away with his actions.
A former Boy Scouts executive, A. Buford Hill, said he was simply following directions from the national organization by failing to report Turley's actions to police. "You do not want to broadcast to the entire population that these things happen," he said according to the Los Angeles Times. "You take care of it quietly and make sure it never happens again."
Turley's records have come up with 5,000 others who have been at least suspected of child molestation through the Boy Scouts, but kept under wraps. While the national organization has kept confidential files on molestation, conversely, the BSA has remained adamant about excluding openly gay people from becoming members or scout leaders because officials say allowing gays would expose children to sexuality.

The captain of the Welsh rugby team, the Old Redcliffians, came out as gay after a potential suitor he met said he couldn't date someone who was closeted.
Jed Hooper, 22, told theEvening Post that the encounter was the catalyst for his big announcement.
