MTV ACTOR COMES OUT

MTV star Paul Iacono, 23, came out in an interview with the Village Voice in part to give young people another openly gay example of a successful actor. 

"I didn't think I'd be coming out. But why not now?" he told Michael Musto. "I think it's the right time to say something."

Iacono, who starred in The Hard Times of RJ Berger as a teenager suddenly made popular by his large penis, is about to roll out another MTV series, called Kenzie's Scale. In this one, he plays a gay character.

 "The whole reason we came up with Kenzie's Scale is to give young gays characters to look up to," he told Musto. "It's great that we have Chris Colfer, but we need more characters."

Glee's Colfer, 21, is another of the few examples of young actors who are openly gay, and who also plays a gay role on television.

Iacono said his character, Cole, is one half of a straight high school sweetheart couple that moves to New York for college. Then Cole realizes he's gay and the show follows them as the duo remain friends.

The Hard Times, which ran for two seasons, also included a gay storyline when RJ discovers that Max, a popular jock and bully on the show, is secretly gay by finding him in the locker room showers making out with another guy. RJ is in love with the girl Max was dating but still promises he won't tell anyone until Max is ready to come out.

Recent Hollywood stars to come out include Matt Bomer, 34, Zachary Quinto, also 34, and Sean Maher, 36.

David Testo, a 30-year-old former MVP for the Montreal Impact soccer team, came out in an interview with CBC Radio Canada.

"I’m gay, I’m gay. I did not choose. It’s just part of who I am. And it has nothing to do with the talent of a soccer player. You can be both an excellent soccer player and being gay," Testo said this week. "I really regret not having said publicly earlier. I fought with it all my life, my whole career. Living the life of a professional athlete and being gay is incredibly difficult ... It saps all your energy to you, in addition to having to perform, having to play."
A native of North Carolina, Testo started his professional soccer career playing for the Columbus Crew in the MLS League. He moved to the Montreal Impact in 2007 and was named its most valuable player two years ago. Glee is heating up for sweeps with two of the show’s most popular couples losing their “V” cards in the episode, entitled “The First Time."

Kurt (Chris Colfer) and Blaine (Darren Criss) “finally decide to take the next step in their relationship. It’s all handled very delicately and is incredibly moving. I can’t think of another network series that’s taken a teenage gay relationship so far or been so progressive,” writes Entertainment Weekly's Tim Stack.
Meanwhile, a parallel story features the show’s on-again, off-again couple Rachel (Lea Michelle) and Finn (Cory Monteith) navigating their emotions — via a musical number, of course — around Rachel’s decision to lose her virginity to Finn.
The catalyst for Kurt and Blaine’s decision to consummate their relationship is a romantic triangle with new gay Warbler member Sebastian (Grant Gustin), who sets his sights on Blaine. There’ll also be a terrifically fun scene in which Kurt, Blaine and Sebastian run into Kurt’s closeted, reformed bully — and Santana’s beard for prom — Karofsky (Max Adler) at their town’s only gay bar, Scandals, according to EW.

The episode will no doubt attract controversy, sending antigay and abstinence-only groups into a tailspin with what is purported to be a sensitive, mature handling of something the majority of teens go through in high school. The show had already been called "propaganda" by religious right activists because of its proudly gay characters. But sweeps month was made for controversy.
“The episode is said to highlight the importance of safe sex, emotional preparation and a healthy discourse,” according to The Daily Mail.

Don’t look for a parallel story with the show’s now official girl-girl couple — Santana (Naya Rivera) and Brittany (Heather Morris) — as the pair had been getting their “sweet lady kisses” on and “scissoring” as far back as a year ago.

ZACHARY QUINTO COMES OUT!!

Actor Zachary Quinto reveals he is gay and that having starred in the AIDS-themed play Angels in America made him realize he's lucky, in a new profile in New York magazine.

During the new interview Quinto responds to what New York describes as "the cultural bipolarity that can see gay marriage legalized in New York in the same year that yet another gay teenager, Jamey Rodemeyer, was bullied and killed himself,' Quinto says, “And again, as a gay man I look at that and say there’s a hopelessness that surrounds it, but as a human being I look at it and say ‘Why? Where’s this disparity coming from, and why can’t we as a culture and society dig deeper to examine that?’ We’re terrified of facing ourselves.”
Quinto is currently in theaters in a small role in the comedy What's Your Number? and will be seen later this month as a gay man in the FX series American Horror Story. His next film Margin Call, which he co-produced and in which he costars with Kevin Spacey, will open October 21.
